Normal People
"Marianne, I'm not a religious person, but I do sometimes think God made you for me"
I started this blog at the beginning of the summer, and I still enjoy posting articles on basically everything I ever read in my life, even if no one sees it. And obviously, I often talk about books I read before I started writing articles. And today I chose to talk about a book I read a year ago : Normal people.
I will start by saying that what seduced me instantly in this novel is how Sally Rooney describes her characters. Of course, a lot of authors perfectly master the art of making you feel like you're not reading anymore, like you're a part of the story yourself. But Sally Rooney does more than that. What I felt about every single character - good or bad feelings - I had never felt before, with any books (not even The Perks of Being a Wallflower). 2 chapters and I already knew this book was going to be one of those that leaves you marked like a wine-stained dress : you're still the same, but enough different so that you'll never feel alike again. The kind of thrill a reader can spend their entire life searching for.
I cried, laughed, threw my book across the room; all of that sometimes in a couple of pages. With this book, you truly never know what to expect, and that's what keeps you awake reading all night. To be totally honest, this book impacted me so much that I haven't been able to read another novel from Sally Ronney since, too scared to destroy the perspective I have of her talent (even though I have had "Conversations with Friends" and "Beautiful world, where are you ?" in my library for at least 3 months).
As an accomplished reader, I'm glad I found my thrill.
