Where the Crawdads Sing
"If anyone understood loneliness, the moon would"
I will start with a quick recommendation : if you like to read with music, and you envisage reading this book, try and do it while listening to 'Carolina' by Taylor Swift ;)
I actually read this novel during my holidays, so just a week ago. I must admit it wasn't loved at first reading, and it took me a couple of days to find myself interested in the storyline and the characters. But once I was launched, nothing could have stopped me. I believe I read the first half in three days and the second half in three hours. But if one thing never changes all along the reading, it's the empathy and attachment I felt for the main character, Kya, "The marsh girl". She illuminates the whole story.
Delia Owens gives us an enigmatic title for a frankly incredible novel, in a poetic style. This book is a sublime hymn to nature. How this novel moved me with its infinite beauty : truly touching and unforgettable. One of these books that captivated me from start to finish. I would have liked it not to end. In this song of the crawdads, there is a magnificent part of all of us, an exacerbated nature put in the spotlight. Not to mention the final twist that ends a perfect storyline.
Kya's character is worked, complex, and endearing as ever. Even when you think that couldn't be better, the author still surprises you and presents towards the end a cat with his very own mini role. What more could you ask for ?
